How much does electric moped rental cost in London?

Electric moped rental in London costs £69 a week at Otto Scooter for the Askoll eSPro 70 and £74 a week for the VMoto Super Soco CPx, on a four-week minimum term with a £200 refundable deposit and no credit check. The weekly price covers the vehicle, hire-and-reward insurance, GPS tracking, unlimited mileage, free servicing and same-day breakdown replacement — the only running cost the rider adds is charging, about £2 a week. Comparable London moped rentals are advertised between £45 and £80 a week. Moped and scooter are two names for the same vehicle here: the step-through, twist-and-go L3e that most riders searching for scooter rental in London are after.

The rental lets riders working for Uber Eats, Deliveroo, Just Eat, Stuart and Relay use a fully insured electric moped on a flexible weekly contract. Riders must be 21 or over and hold a valid CBT certificate, obtainable in one day from any DVSA-approved London centre for around £130. Otto Scooter has offered this service in London since 2019, with a fleet of over 580 electric vehicles serving more than 2,000 delivery riders, collected from its workshop at 66 Paddenswick Road, Hammersmith W6 0UB, with moped rental in London covered borough by borough.

Scooter, moped or e-scooter?

What you're actually renting in London

Most riders searching for scooter rental in London and most riders searching for moped rental in London want the same vehicle: a step-through, twist-and-go electric bike you sit on, classed in UK law as an L3e moped. "Scooter" is the everyday word for it; "moped" is what appears on the V5C and on your insurance certificate. Otto rents that vehicle — and calls it a moped on the contract so there is no ambiguity when a platform checks your cover.

What it is not is a stand-up e-scooter. Privately owned e-scooters remain illegal on UK public roads and pavements, so they can't be used for delivery work. If you'd rather skip the CBT entirely, the legal alternative is an electric bike — an EAPC needing no licence, no CBT and no insurance.

What moped rental costs in London

£69/week

4-week minimum · £200 refundable deposit · no credit check

Otto · VMoto Super Soco CPx
£74/week

Electric vs petrol

Why rent electric instead of a petrol moped

£0

No ULEZ, no fuel

Zero-emission means no ULEZ and no congestion charge, ever. Charging costs roughly £2 a week against £20+ in petrol.

Less to go wrong

No oil, no clutch, no exhaust. Fewer moving parts means fewer breakdowns — and servicing is included anyway.

Swap, don’t refuel

Removable batteries charge from any 3-pin socket. No queueing at a petrol station mid-shift.

Frequently asked

Is scooter rental the same as moped rental in London?
In everyday use, yes. The step-through, twist-and-go electric bike Londoners call a "scooter" is registered in UK law as an L3e moped — that’s the word on the V5C and on your insurance certificate, which is why we use it on the contract. What it is not is a stand-up e-scooter: privately owned e-scooters are still illegal on UK public roads and pavements, so they cannot be used for delivery work.
What is the minimum term for moped rental in London?
Four weeks on the Askoll eSPro 70 and eight weeks on the VMoto Super Soco CPx. After the minimum term the rental runs weekly and you can cancel at any renewal with no exit fee — you simply return the bike and the £200 deposit comes back once we’ve checked it over.
Do I need a CBT to ride an electric moped in London?
Yes. Otto’s electric mopeds require a valid UK provisional (or full) driving licence plus a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) certificate. A CBT takes one day at any DVSA-approved London centre and costs around £130. If you’d rather not take a CBT, our electric bikes need no licence at all.
Is insurance included with the rental?
Yes — every Otto moped rental includes comprehensive hire-and-reward insurance, valid across Uber Eats, Deliveroo, Just Eat, Stuart, Relay and private work, from the moment you collect the bike.
How old do I have to be?
You must be 21 or over to rent a moped from us — a requirement of our fleet insurance, above the legal minimum of 17 — and hold a valid CBT and provisional/full licence. Platforms also require you to be 18+ to deliver — check your platform’s own rules.
Are electric mopeds ULEZ-compliant?
Yes. Every Otto electric moped is zero-emission, so there is no ULEZ charge and no congestion charge anywhere in London — a saving over petrol mopeds every single day you ride.
Where do I charge it?
From any standard UK 3-pin socket. The batteries are removable with carry handles, so you charge at home, in a shared hallway, or wherever you park — no dedicated charger or wall-box required.
What if the moped is stolen or breaks down?
Every bike has a GPS tracker monitored 24/7 and theft claims are handled in-house. If a bike breaks down, call or WhatsApp the workshop — in most cases we swap it for a replacement at Hammersmith the same day, free on every rental plan.
